The Dolomites, also known as the “Pale Mountains”, are a mountain range in the northern Italian Alps covering an area that is shared by the Italian provinces of Belluno, Bolzano, Trento, Udine and Pordenone
This tour covers the most scenic and rewarding sections of the Alta Via 1, which is the premier long trail of the Dolomites, and the Alta Via 2, which is slightly more rugged but just as spectacular. These point-to-point trails pass through the heart of the Dolomites and take you past its famous peaks: the Santa Croce-Conturines group, Tofana de Rozes, Lagazuoi, the Sella Massif, Cir Peaks and Odle mountain group.
Your bags will be transferred daily from hut to hut so you can enjoy the experience of running carefree with minimal weight along the Dolomites’ most beautiful trails.

Spend nights in cozy, well-equipped mountain huts (called “Rifugio” in Italian), where you‘d enjoy nourishing, cooked meals and comfortable quarters.

Day 1:

Our group will convene in Badia, where we‘ll have dinner together followed by a trip briefing from the guides. Overnight stay in a hotel in Badia.

Day 2:

Today we’ll begin our 10.5-mile run from Badia over Passo San Antonio through Fanes-Senes-Braies National Park. A large part of the woods is made up of spruces and serves as the habitat for many animals including pine martens or foxes. As you work your way above treeline, you‘re rewarded with magnificent 360° views. The rocky area surrounding the waters of Lago di Limo are ideal for watching ibexes and chamois. Tonight we enjoy dinner and sleep in a mountain hut.

Day 3:

From Fanes Natural Park, we run 7.8 miles (with an elevation gain of 3,800 feet and 1,500-foot loss) to Lagazuoi through Forcella dal Lago. ‘Forcella’ is Italian for a narrow pass enclosed by mountain cliffs. And views will only get better as you approach this point. From Forcella del Lago you can see the length of the trail heading to Lagazuoi, which is the highest point of the Alta Via 1 (at 9,029 feet) and has stunning views in every direction.

Day 4:

Today we run 8.5 miles (with an elevation gain of 2,150 feet) from Lagazuoi to Pralongià. You will run through reconstructions of the trenches and galleries dug into rock that are now the World War I Open Air Museum of Lagazuoi-5 Torri. The Albergo Rifugio Pralongià, where we‘ll spend the night, is named after the idyllic plateau above Corvara and San Cassiano. It is situated above 7,000 feet in the middle of the Dolomites.

Day 5:

Today’s run takes us down into the valley and through the town of Corvara, famous for its winter skiing facilities. We’ll then traverse east to west along the Sella Massif, passing under the Pisciadú Waterfall and under the one of the most famous Via Ferrata’s of the Dolomites (Tridentina del Pisciadú). For trail runners who want to try a Via Ferrata experience this is the one for you. We reach the Passo Gardena later, where we stay for the night.

Day 6:

Our 8.5-mile run takes us from Passo Gardena to Rifugio Ghernacia, passing the Cir Peaks that are the natural door before entering the lunar landscape of Puez Odle Nature Park, home to a beautiful yet fragile ecosystem that is home to many varieties of alpine flora and fauna. We sleep tonight in Rifugio Ghernacia.

Day 7:

This last stage of the running tour takes from Rifugio Ghernacia back to the town of Badia, a run of about 5 miles that descend 3,120 feet. Running over the Ghernacia plateau, you’re treated to spectacular views of the Dolomites mountains. Dinner and overnight stay in an hotel in Badia.

Raised within the walls of Ustaria Posta Hotel, Igor Tavella claims that working on site is the best training he’s ever had. Igor quickly learned the family tradition of hospitality management and willingly accepted the commitment and hard work the tourism industry requires, while keeping his feet firmly on the pedals. He inherited the love of cycling from his father and between Baby Giro (Giro d’Italia Baby), cyclo-cross championships and mountain bike world cups, the times he’s been on the podium of numerous important competitions. After reaching the end of his competitive career, he founded Holimites with two friends in order to offer a vacation-based sport activities like trail running, biking, hiking and skiing. .
